چکیده
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODSdRenal function, blood pressure, and plasma cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) were measured in 20 men and 15 women with type 1 diabetesmellitus during clamped euglycemia and clamped hyperglycemia. Renal function, blood pressure, and plasma cGMP responses to graded infusions of intravenous L-arginine and Nmonomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) were measured during clamped hyperglycemia.

Sex Differences in Renal Responses to Hyperglycemia, l-Arginine, and l-NMMA in Humans With Uncomplicated Type 1 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE Women exhibit exaggerated renal hemodynamic responses to hyperglycemia, which may promote kidney disease progression. Our aim was to determine if increased nitric oxide generation by l-arginine infusion would reverse this deleterious response to clamped hyperglycemia in women with type 1 diabetes mellitus. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Renal function, blood pressure, and plasma cyclic...
متن کاملHyperfiltration and effect of nitric oxide inhibition on renal and endothelial function in humans with uncomplicated type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Studies of experimental diabetes mellitus (DM) suggest that increased nitric oxide (NO) bioactivity contributes to renal hyperfiltration. However, the role of NO in mediating hyperfiltration has not been fully elucidated in humans. Our aim was to examine the effect of NO synthase inhibition on renal and peripheral vascular function in normotensive subjects with uncomplicated type 1 DM. Renal fu...
متن کاملNitric oxide increases renal blood flow by interacting with the sympathetic nervous system.
To investigate whether changes in renal blood flow induced by nondepressor doses of L-arginine, the precursor of nitric oxide, are mediated by a sympathetic neural mechanism, we examined the following in conscious rabbits: (1) the effects of intravenous infusion of L- or D-arginine (15 to 200 mumol/kg per minute) on renal blood flow and renal sympathetic nerve activity with or without intraveno...
متن کاملThe role of L-arginine and aerobic exercise in experimental renal ischemia reperfusion injury in male and female rats
Introduction: Renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury due to reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation is the main cause of acute kidney damage. Nitric oxide (NO) biosynthesis and oxidative stress are closely related to the pathogenesis of renal I/R injury. This study was undertaken to determine the effects of L-arginine (L-arg) as NO donor and aerobic exercise (EX) and also the combination of L-...
متن کاملRenal Hyperfiltration and Arterial Stiffness in Humans With Uncomplicated Type 1 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE We have reported that renal hyperfiltration is associated with endothelial dysfunction in early type 1 diabetes. However, the relationship between renal hyperfiltration and arterial stiffness is unknown. Accordingly, we measured arterial stiffness in type 1 diabetic subjects with hyperfiltering (n = 20) or normofiltering (n = 18). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Augmentation index (AIx)...
